Opera successes of Slovene musicians

On 19 January 2013 Marko Letonja made his highly successful opera debut in the Vienna State Opera, conducting Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades.


Musicians, hurry up, STG is almost here!

On Wednesday, 16 January, the programme for this year’s festival Slovenian Music Week (STG) was revealed at a press conference in the Centre for Urban Culture Kino Šiška. The second edition of the festival will take place between 5 and 8 February at various locations in Ljubljana. This year the 4-day festival will showcase a variety of events: workshops, lectures, round tables with international guests and concerts by national and foreign music groups.


Rebirth of Wagner in Ljubljana

Wagner's opera The Flying Dutchman received its premiere performance At Cankarjev dom's Gallus Hall, on Friday 18 January 2013. Wagner's masterpieces have not been staged in Slovenia since 1984.


40th Anniversary of Maestro Uroš Lajovic

Uroš Lajovic's professional career spanning 40 years was celebrated with a concert in the Slovenian Philharmonic. The concert featured works by Mozart and Mahler under the direction of conductor Uroš Lajovic.


Ensemble Modern in Munich with performances of works by Slovenian composers

The Ensemble Modern performed under the direction of Peter Eötvös in the Muffathalle in Munich on 11 and 12 December.


The Society of Slovene Composers presented this year's accomplishments

Despite the present difficult times the Society managed to release new CDs in the Ars SlovenicA series, which the Society has been regularly releasing in cooperation with Radio Slovenia since 1996. All together, 6 CDs were released along with 49 editions, which exceeds the Ministry of Culture normative (5 CDs and 30 editions yearly).


Slovenian experimental music compilation – first release in the Czech Republic

SIGIC released a compilation of Slovenian experimental music in the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Czech Music Information Centre from Prague (Hudební informační středisko, o.p.s.) and its printed music magazine His Voice, within the framework of the joint project Minstrel, which receives EU support. The compilation was released under the name Slovinská eksperimentální hudba as a supplement to the most recent edition of the music magazine.


Janez Gregorc, 20 June 1934 – 6 November 2012

Slovenian composer, arranger and pedagogue Janez Gregorc passed away in his 79th year on 6 November.


Glasbena matica Ljubljana in its 140th anniversary

The year 2012 is a special year for Glasbena matica Ljubljana, which celebrates its 140th anniversary. The anniversary has been marked with more than 100 events taking place throughout the year.


Slovenian musicians performing abroad

Some Slovenian musicians managed to achieve recognition abroad. More and more often they tour around the world and at the moment Germany seems to be their target.
