The 2012/13 Winter Season in Slovenia

As Slovenia's summer festivals come to a close, the 2012/13 winter season offers many traditional and newer concert series featuring a wide variety of musical events. Prominent musicians will take the stage at different venues throughout Slovenia, presenting a myriad of musical genres.


Summer festivals in Slovenia

Slovenia's summer music festivals offer a plethora of events and performances for every ear. This summer numerous music festivals will cater to individual tastes at different venues across Slovenia, featuring a variety of musical genres. Music spanning across medieval, baroque, classical, contemporary, world music, electronic and rock genres will be presented at festivals in Ljubljana, Maribor, Brežice, Radovljica, Novo mesto and elsewhere. Jazz lovers have also had their fill at the 53rd Ljubljana Jazz Festival, one of the oldest in Europe. Some of the central events of this summer are taking place within the framework of the European capital of culture - Maribor 2012.

The 59th International Rostrum of Composers took place in the building of the Swedish Radio in Stockholm and was concluded on Friday 25th May. The International Composers's Tribune is one of the most important forums for contemporary composers. Thus ROSTRUM features presentations and evaluations of recordings of contemporary music works. The Tribune has been active since 1954 at the initiative of the International Council and has this year brought immense success and recognition to Slovene contemporary music.


A Fair of Jazz Opportunities

Jazz fair jazzahead!, which took place in Bremen between 19 and 22 April, gathered jazz enthusiasts and professionals from different countries. This year's sixth edition of the jazz fair hosted a record number of professional participants and exhibitors – their numbers have increased by a third.

NEW! Invitation to the Alpine Coctail NEW! For several years SIGIC has been actively promoting Slovenian music at home and abroad. This year it will return to Jazzhead, the most prominent jazz fair in Europe. SIGIC already took part in the fair last year with considerable success.

Editors of 49 radio stations from 24 European countries have placed the compilation album Etno Slovenia 2011 on the World Music Charts Europe.
